Botox and similar neurotoxins (Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau) temporarily relax the muscles that cause expression lines — frown lines, forehead lines, crow's feet. Results appear in a few days, last about three to four months, and pricing is usually per unit.

Botox is a purified botulinum toxin that blocks the nerve signal telling a muscle to contract. Injected in small amounts into specific facial muscles, it softens the lines those muscles create. It does not fill lines or add volume — that's what dermal fillers do.
Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau are alternative brands with the same active mechanism. Providers often have a preference; unit counts are not one-to-one across brands, so compare by area and outcome rather than unit price alone.
Frown lines between the brows (the glabella), horizontal forehead lines, and crow's feet are the FDA-approved cosmetic areas and account for most treatments. Experienced injectors also treat a lip flip, bunny lines, a downturned mouth, neck bands, and masseter muscles for jaw slimming or clenching.
Nothing visible on the day. Softening begins around day 3–5 and peaks at about two weeks, which is when a good practice offers a follow-up for any touch-up. Results fade gradually over three to four months. Regular maintenance can lead to longer-lasting results over time.
Most providers charge per unit; some charge per area. Ask for the per-unit price and the recommended unit count for each area so quotes are comparable. Manufacturer loyalty programs can reduce the cost of repeat visits. Our Botox cost guide explains the pricing models in detail.
The injector's license and experience, who the supervising physician is, which product is used (ask to see the vial), and the touch-up policy. A price far below every other practice is a reason to ask questions, not a reason to book.
Typically three to four months. Most people schedule maintenance three to four times a year. Duration varies with dose, the area treated, and individual metabolism.
It depends on the area and your muscle strength. FDA-labeled doses are 20 units for frown lines, 20 for forehead lines, and 24 for crow's feet, adjusted by your injector after assessment.
Both are botulinum toxin type A products that work the same way. Dysport units are not equivalent to Botox units, so compare pricing by treatment area and outcome rather than per unit.
Physicians (MD/DO) may inject directly. Nurse practitioners and physician assistants may inject under a written physician protocol or delegation. Registered nurses may inject only as a delegated medical act with a patient-specific physician order, and Board of Nursing guidance has treated that as requiring the physician to be physically present. Estheticians and cosmetologists cannot inject under any circumstances.
