Superficial peels (glycolic, lactic, salicylic) brighten and smooth with little downtime and are done in a series. Medium peels (TCA, VI Peel, Jessner's) reach deeper for pigmentation, sun damage, and fine lines, with about a week of visible peeling. Deep peels (phenol) are medical procedures with significant downtime, performed by physicians.
